How Can I Monitor Medical Equipment in a Person's Residence?

Does a system exist that could track equipment used by a patient at home?

William,

If such a system exists, I have not seen it. You could use Bluetooth-based tags, like the Tile, to track larger medical equipment in a home via a smartphone (see Who Says RFID Tags Pose a Privacy Risk or Are Too Costly? and What Are Tiles?). If any of our readers know of another way to do this, they are invited to post information below.

If this was a ‘there / not there, moved or operated requirement’ then you could use active RFID Tags and a GPRS Reader (either temporarily or permanently installed). A hosted server could then receive the data from the Tags. The monthly rental for the GPRS service (which could use an exiting service if a smartphone contract was in place) would be relatively low as there would be little traffic.
