How Much Do Radio Frequency Identification Chips Cost?
Please tell me how much I can expect to spend for them.

A chip is the microprocessor that serves as the brains of an RFID transponder. Unless you plan on buying chips and assembling your own transponders (commonly known as tags), I assume that you actually want to know the cost of transponders.
The answer is that it depends on what you are trying to do and the form factor that you want the transponders to have. If you are looking for simple passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) inlays, they can be purchased for as little as 7 cents apiece, as long as you buy them in very large quantities. If you want passive high-frequency (HF) tags embedded in plastic along with an employee's photo, these could cost you about a dollar each. Passive tags that need to survive very high temperatures can run anywhere from $10 to $50 apiece.
There are also active RFID tags, which have a power source (usually a battery). These tags can cost $20 to $75 each, depending on how rugged they are and the kind of battery used.
