Are Time Slots the Only Way to Communicate With RFID Tags?

Is it possible to read Gen 2 RFID tags with a deterministic method—i.e., having all tags with a number greater than 10110 respond?

To answer your question, I reached to Steve Halliday, the president of both High Tech Aid and RAIN RFID, and an expert on RFID technology and standards. Here is his response:

"The 18000-63 air-interface supports the select command. This command allows a user to select which tags will be allowed to report in the subsequent inventory round. The select command has several parameters associated with it, dictating how the various flags will be set, and what the selection criteria might be. One of the options is to select the UII memory, then set a pointer, length and mask. The pointer may be set to the start of the sequential number with a length equal to the number of bits up to the highest tag ID. If the value was then set to 0, then only those tags with a number equal or less than the highest ID (10110) would be selected. During the subsequent inventory round, these are the only tags that would reply. This is described in section 6.3.2.9 of the ISO/IEC 18000-63 standard."
