Could I Use RFID to Prevent Bicycle Theft?

Posted By RFID Journal, 09.24.2015

I am sick of having my bike stolen each year at Burning Man. Is there a chip that consumers can buy that offers a four-mile range or something close to that? Thank you.

Unfortunately, no, there is nothing that has that kind of range that could be used for a consumer application. There are Bluetooth beacons that can alert you if something is moved further than about 50 feet away, but it would not work at a large event where your bicycle would be locked up far from where you were watching or participating.

Hi, i would advise contacting TracLogik. They are able to produce bespoke GPS tracking devices which you can track with their cloud based tracking panel. Visit www.traclogik.co.uk/contact
