How Has RFID Been Deployed in Agriculture?

Posted By RFID Journal, 08.13.2015

Do you have any information regarding EPC Gen 2 ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID tags and their use in cultivating animals and plants?

There have not been a lot of deployments using passive UHF EPC tags in agriculture to date. Here are a few stories we've published:

RFID Tracks Produce From Field to Fork

With RFID, Pork Producer Sells No Swine Before Its Time

RFID Tracks Leafy Greens in Arizona

These three articles describe agricultural RFID applications that do not seem to use EPC RFID, but there is no reason why they couldn't:

There is certainly a lot of opportunity to use passive EPC technology in agriculture, but most companies in that sector have not even deployed bar codes yet. As such, there is a reluctance to invest in new technologies.
