How Can We Program Thousands of Tags in One Day?
What is involved in quickly encoding serial numbers on products?
In 2012, the three major producers of passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) tag chips agreed on a common approach to the serialization of Electronic Product Codes (see Three RFID Chip Makers Agree on Serialization Approach). This makes it relatively easy to set up an encoding station on your production line or in your post production area to quickly encode serial numbers on thousands of products. It is also possible, of course, to purchase pre-encoded tags. The challenge is not in writing serial numbers to all of the tags, but rather in ensuring that the proper tag is associated with the correct product. This is a matter of setting up a disciplined process and adhering to it consistently.
