How Can I Connect RFID to mySQL Using PHP?

Posted By RFID Journal, 09.22.2014

Can you please advise as to how I would do this?

I am not an IT person, but it seems to me that you would not want to use PHP. Many readers output data in XML format or as plain text (a flat file). It should be simple to write a script that would take this information and write it to a mySQL database. You could, I suppose, take the data from the reader and format it as PHP, and then write a script to import the PHP table into a database, but it seems to me (and again, I am not an IT guy) that this would create an unnecessary extra step. Perhaps some of our readers who write RFID software might be able to offer some suggestions regarding the best approach to getting reader data into a mySQL database.

If you want to write a PHP handler to put data from an RFID reader into mySQL you just need to find an RFID reader that makes its data available to be read (RS232, USB, WIFI, etc) and then run the PHP program to collect that data every X minutes. Without knowing your development environment (OS, RFID reader, etc). a better answer cannot be given. Check with your RFID reader manufacturer to see if they have prewritten code to poll your device. XML is a method of describing data. PHP is a programming language. The two are completely independent concepts and unrelated. XML can be read with many different programming languages, PHP can read many different methods of formatting data.
