Can RFID Tags Communicate Peer to Peer While Immersed in Liquid?
Are any commercially available systems designed to work underwater?
A number of academic papers have been written about underwater wireless sensor networks (for instance, see A Static Multi-Hop Underwater Wireless Sensor Network Using RF Electromagnetic Communications). And researchers at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) have tested a wireless underwater network of nodes that chirp acoustic, rather than RF, transmissions from lake or ocean floors to a receiver on the water's surface, and then forward that data to the Internet via a cellular connection (see University Group Testing Underwater Sensor Network). However, I am unaware of any commercially available systems designed to work underwater. If our readers have any information about such a system, they are invited to post it below.
