Where Can I Find 2.45 GHz RFID Tags and Readers?

Posted By RFID Journal, 06.24.2014

I am searching for passive RFID tags operating at 2.45 GHz and a corresponding reader-writer. Can you give me details of a supplier from whom I can get this?

Dear V Ranganathan,

There are very few 2.45 GHz tags and readers available on the market. Hitachi makes a very tiny chip called the µ-chip (mu-chip) that operates at that frequency. It has an antenna etched into the chip itself, and is designed to be embedded in paper for authentication and anti-counterfeiting (see Hitachi Unveils Smallest RFID Chip).

NXP Semiconductors makes an RFID chip, the Ucode HSL, designed to operate at 860 to 960 MHz (complying with the ISO 18000-6C standard) or at 2.4 to 2.5 GHz (complying with ISO 18000-4), depending on which antenna is used to make the tag. The chip's specifications can be viewed here.

BayNexus offers handheld readers for such tags (see Hospitals in Japan, China Seek to Save Lives Via Pocketsize Reader). This is the only company that makes a 2.45 GHz reader of which I am aware. NXP might know of others.

If any of our readers know of any other passive 2.45 GHz tags and readers, they are invited to post information below.
