Do You Have Any Suggestion for Using RFID in ATM Cassettes?
Any advice would be appreciated.
I am unaware of any companies that have deployed RFID technology to track automated teller machine (ATM) cassettes, but that just might be because such businesses would not want people to know what they were doing. Given that these cassettes hold cash, I would think that closely monitoring them would be vital. There might be a great deal of value in tagging individual cassettes, and in having readers installed in the areas where cash is put into them, so the fact that an individual cassette had been loaded with cash could be recorded.
I would place readers on trucks, enabling the system to automatically record when and where each cassette was loaded or unloaded onto a particular vehicle. I would also put a GPS device on each truck so that I could perform geo-fencing and ensure that the cassettes were unloaded at the correct locations (banks are likely already doing this). In addition, I would have a reader inside each ATM, so that the system could record which cassette had been placed within it, and at what time. The solution would also need to record the removal of empty cassettes and their movements back through the chain for refilling.
The value of such a system would be always knowing where an individual cassette had been. If one were to end up missing or be found to have the wrong amount of cash in it, then its history could be examined. I think it would also be useful to put an RFID-enabled badge on everyone who handles them, so that you could record who had been in contact with each individual cassette.
