How Can I Launch an EPCIS System?
I am deploying such a system and would like to know exactly where to start. Do I need to take some courses or training online?
There are a wealth of resources available to learn about Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS). First, the EPCIS standard itself, along with the companion Core Business Vocabulary (CBV) standard, are available for download at the GS1 Knowledge Center.
Second, there are online training courses available. A very thorough course is offered by RFID Academia, utilizing the same material and instructor as the RFID for IT Professionals series that we offer each year at our RFID Journal LIVE! conference and exhibition.
Third, there are many EPCIS software products available to assist with your deployment. Many people begin learning about EPCIS via the Fosstrak open-source EPCIS implementation. You can also find commercial products by searching the Web.
Finally, there are experts who can offer education and consulting. One such expert is Ken Traub, who writes RFID Journal's Software Savvy column and was also the editor of the EPCIS standard. Visit his website for more information.
