How Much Does an RFID System Cost?
What would be the low and high ends of what I could expect to spend for the technology?
This is a question I am often asked, but it would be impossible to provide an answer without first knowing what you are trying to accomplish. It's sort of like trying to put a price tag on an enterprise computer system—it would depend on whether you were talking about providing desktops and a network for five workers at a small company, or a mainframe system suitable for a Fortune 500 firm.
RFID Journal's Find-IT application costs $799 and includes a reader for an Android phone or tablet, a reader for a PC, software and 50 tags. That's at the low end. At the high end, an RFID system could cost several million dollars—if you were installing hundreds or thousands of readers, tracking millions of items and providing software for hundreds of users.
If you have a specific project in mind, feel free to e-mail me directly (at firstname.lastname@example.org) and I can give you a better idea of the likely cost for your particular application.
