What Brand of RFID Tags and Readers Would You Recommend for Monitoring Coolers and Refrigerators?
The units chosen must be tamper-proof, since they will be deployed nationwide.
It is difficult to provide a definitive answer without first knowing more about what you are trying to do. Would the tags need to monitor a refrigerator's temperature, or just authenticate that the unit was a legitimate model from your company? Would the tamper-evident tags need to report to a reader that they had been tampered with, or just indicate this status visually? Do you seek fixed readers that could monitor the tags 24-7, or would the tags be read occasionally via a handheld interrogator?
Several companies that will be exhibiting at RFID Journal LIVE! 2013 (our 11th annual conference and exhibition, taking place from Apr. 30 to May 2) offer tamper-proof or -evident tags, including Metalcraft, Star Systems International and William Frick and Co. All of the major high-frequency (HF) and ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) reader manufacturers will be there as well. I would recommend attending the event and speaking to representatives of these companies about what you are trying to accomplish, so that you can determine which tag and reader combination bests suits your particular application. You will also be able to meet with software firms, in case you require a solution for monitoring the refrigerators.
