November 12, 2007—Over the past 5 years, the RFID industry has seen UHF technology make a number of major advances in terms of performance and reliability. Current state-of-the-art RFID reader products are certainly far superior to early predecessors, and tag performance has reciprocally improved. The adoption of Gen 2 has fueled much of this technology evolution.

For most technologies, 5 years is a long time. Developments mount up exponentially, and there comes a time when users have to look at updating their system and moving to better technology.

Sirit has introduced a Reader Swap-out Program designed to give users an easy upgrade path and provide an incentive with a $250 instant rebate, lowering the cost entry point for adopting leading-edge technology. Further details on the Reader Swap-Out Program can be found at www.sirit.com.

"Over the past few years, many RFID programs have been limited in scope to lab or small test environments. As the market continues to mature, many first generation readers and subsequent versions simply cannot meet the performance promises in real world applications," stated Tony Sabetti, vice president, RF Solutions, Sirit Inc. "The goal of our Swap-Out Program is to help customers upgrade to the industry's leading RFID reader, Sirit's INfinity 510, so they can benefit from the superior performance and technology advancements within this next generation reader. With faster, more accurate tag reads, Sirit's INfinity 510 delivers highly reliable data which in turn translates to a more effective implementation of RFID technology."

"After much progress in terms of product availability, performance, and cost-reduction, many users in the passive UHF reader market would benefit from a technology refresh," noted Michael Liard, Research Director for RFID and Contactless at ABI Research (Oyster Bay, NY). "A program such as the one Sirit is introducing offers existing and new customers assurances on price, performance, and overall satisfaction with the opportunity to embrace the latest technology advancements."

The rebate is available to all users worldwide who take other readers out of service -- any brand, any model, any frequency -- and replace them with an INfinity 510. The Swap-Out Program runs from November 8, 2007 to March 31, 2008 and will be executed through Sirit's worldwide distributor and reseller network.

Sirit is making it as easy as possible for users to transition to the latest technology by providing a Swap-out Reference Guide that addresses the issues and considerations in changing out readers. It covers antennas, cabling, connectors, reader start-up, software issues, and other subjects. Sirit also strongly encourages users to consult a qualified system integrator or value added reseller for assistance in replacing older readers.

"We feel confident that once users are exposed to the high performance of the INfinity 510, they will see and appreciate why it is recognized as the leading RFID reader," added Mr. Sabetti. "When you combine our proprietary tag acquisition technology with the most advanced reader management tool-set on the market, you have a reader which can unlock new value and drive efficiencies to the organizations that look to use RFID to improve their operations."

"Sirit's more than 13 years of experience in reader development has played an important role in delivering a high performance product," Sabetti continued. "The INfinity 510 continues to receive praise from integrators who install systems and users that put RFID to work on a daily basis."

ODIN technologies' European RFID Reader Benchmark report tested seven readers, with the INfinity 510 placing first or second in six of the seven test categories. METRO Group, Germany's largest retailer, also performed extensive reader analysis and has chosen the INfinity 510 as their primary reader for its RFID implementation at REAL hypermarket stores currently being deployed across Germany.

The RFID industry has gone from reader and tag manufacturers working hard to be compliant (and certified) to now focusing on increasing performance and reliability. Early implementations have taught users a great deal about what to expect, and what they can achieve using RFID. Sirit's Swap-out Program is a chance for VARs and system integrators to help their customers expand their RFID programs. By tapping into the latest technology, users are able to achieve higher functionality, greater control, better performance, and ultimately, they can maximize the business benefits of RFID.
