October 4, 2004—Panasonic on Friday announced the introduction of an SD memory card that comes with an RFID tag attached. While specific applications of the "smartSD technology" were not articulated, it's clear that it could essentially RFID-enable any device that uses SD cards. Some of the business solutions mentioned include information security, ID and membership cards, and content distribution.
