Big Clothes Brand to Employ Item-Level RFID Tagging

Checkpoint Systems has apparently landed a large contract with a well-known clothes retailer to RFID tag individual articles of clothing.

September 23, 2004—According to RFID skeptic and consumer advocacy group CASPIAN (Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering), RFID manufacturer Checkpoint Systems has landed a large contract with a well-known clothes retailer to tag individual articles of the company's clothing. While the initiative's details -- including the retailer's identity -- remain under wraps, CASPIAN names Calvin Klein, Champion, and Abercrombie & Fitch as possible candidates, with the latter being the most likely.
