July 6, 2004—Almost all of the press given RFID these days mentions the privacy issue. While most RFID advocates assert that near-term implementations of the technology will be focused in the supply chain and therefore not affect consumer privacy, most also acknowledge that item-level tracking, when it comes, will indeed require that privacy protections be carefully considered.
