Anose,
You cannot use an ordinary tag on items that are made of metal or that have high water content. Metal detunes antennas and reflects energy away from tags, while water can also detune antennas and it will absorb RF energy in the UHF spectrum. For metal items, you would need to use an on-metal tag. For goods containing high water content, you would need to either place the tag in an area without liquid—such as at the neck of a bottle—or use a tag specially designed to work around water.
