Aix-en-Provence, 1st April 2007: TWINLINX announces that it will demonstrate how an RFID tag designed for use in the supply chain may also be read using a NFC (Near Field Communications) cell phone. ¨ This unique and powerful concept opens up the way to create many new and attractive consumer orientated applications with chips used in markets such as retail, pharma, libraries and many more¨ stated Steve Lewis Twinlinx VP for Business Development.

M-Link is the latest generation of RFID IC’s being developed by TWINLINX integrating two communication protocols, the ISO 15693 for RFID and the ISO 14443 for NFC.

"The first question we are always asked is that with 2 protocols, the tag price will much more expensive¨ said Steve Lewis ¨ As these 2 protocols have been integrated in the initial phase of the chip design, the cost increase is negligible, allowing us to match the market price for equivalent single standard ISO 15693 chips. ¨ he added.

"NFC is a great concept allowing to create added value for the chips used in the RFID market however there is still a long way to go before we see NFC cell phones in the hands of the majority of consumers ¨ stated Jacek Kowalski , Twinlinx CEO. ¨ To solve this problem and to enable widespread NFC application deployment, Twinlinx is working on an attractive and innovative solution to bring NFC functionality to the existing phones ¨added Jacek.

"We are not just staying at HF¨ said Steve Lewis ¨ We plan to also cover UHF GEN2 market with the same concept of making UHF chips accessible by NFC enabled readers or phones. ¨ he concluded.
