RFID Journal to Host Charity Golf Event

The third annual Mike Sullivan Memorial Golf Tournament will be held in conjunction with RFID Journal LIVE! 2007.

Jan. 17, 2007—RFID Journal announced today that it will host the third annual Mike Sullivan Memorial Golf Tournament in conjunction with RFID Journal LIVE! 2007, RFID Journal's fifth annual conference and exhibition. The charity golf tournament will be held at the Hawk's Landing Golf Club, a par 71, 6,600-yard championship course designed by Robert E. Cupp II.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Mike Sullivan Memorial Scholarship Fund, created under the Boston Scholars Program. Sullivan, an RFID pioneer, worked with Gillette on its efforts in radio frequency identification. After his sudden passing in 2005, several of his friends set up the fund to help underprivileged students in the Boston area.

Hawk's Landing Golf Club, a par 71, 6,600-yard championship course, will play host to the third annual Mike Sullivan Memorial Golf Tournament.

The mission of the Boston Scholars Program is "opening doors through educational opportunity." The organization grants scholarships to meritorious, low-income Boston-area students who have demonstrated a pressing financial need. These students, known as "Boston Scholars," are paired with mentors from the Boston professional community, who guide them along their journey through high school and college preparation.

"We're extremely pleased to be working with Mike's friends to raise money for this worthwhile cause," says Mark Roberti, founder and editor of RFID Journal. "This is truly an opportunity for RFID Journal and the sponsors of the tournament to help a fine organization and remember a pioneer of the RFID industry."

The sponsors of last year's event are listed here. The second annual tournament, held in conjunction with RFID Journal LIVE! 2006, raised nearly $55,000 for the fund. As a result, Daniel Molina was able to start his first year at Boston College High School.

"Once again, we are seeking both event and hole sponsors to support this great cause," says Jamshed Dubash, a friend of Mike Sullivan who has volunteered his time to organize the tournaments. "We hope the RFID community will continue the terrific support it has shown in the past."

RFID vendors interested in sponsoring the event, or a specific hole, should send an e-mail to msmgt@bostonscholars.org. All individuals attending RFID Journal LIVE! are welcome to sign up for the golf tournament. For more information, or to register, visit www.bostonscholars.org/msmg.html.
