RFID Opponent to Publish Book
Katherine Albrecht, a vocal opponent of RFID technologies, will publish Spychips: How Major Corporations and Government Plan to Track Your Every Move with RFID this fall.

Aug. 1, 2005— Katherine Albrecht, founder of Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering (CASPIAN) and a vocal opponent of RFID technologies, has written a book entitled Spychips: How Major Corporations and Government Plan to Track Your Every Move with RFID. This title is slated to be published by Nelson Current, a division of Thomas Nelson Publishers.
Albrecht declined to be interviewed by RFID Journal, stating she would prefer to wait until the publisher's marketing effort for the book begins in September. But the blurb for the book on Nelson Current's Web site describes it as: "An explosive exposé on how major corporations are working to install secret tracking devices on all consumer products, and how this seemingly innocuous commercial maneuver will inevitably turn our society into a Big Brother nightmare."
The blurb goes on to say that RFID "uses computer chips smaller than a grain of sand to track items from a distance. And as this mind-blowing book explains, plans and efforts are being made now by global corporations and the U.S government to turn this advanced technology, these spychips, into a way to track our daily activities—and keep us all on Big Brother's short leash."
The publisher claims the book is based on "massive amounts of research with firsthand knowledge," and promises it will reveal "the master planners' strategies to imbed these trackers on everything—from postage stamps to shoes to people themselves—and spy on Americans without our knowledge or consent."
The coauthor of the book is Liz McIntyre, who handles communications for CASPIAN. The publisher’s purpose, according to its Web site, is "to publish fiercely independent ideas from a variety of political and social positions." Nelson Current says its books "challenge the 'status quo,' question conventional wisdom and provide compelling and thought-provoking alternatives."
Among Nelson Current's other titles are Infiltration: How Muslim Spies and Subversives Have Penetrated Washington, Hoodwinked: How Intellectual Hucksters Have Hijacked American Culture and Big Fat Liars: How Politicians, Corporations, and the Media use Science and Statistics to Manipulate the Public.
