Boeing Leverages RFID to Improve Supply Chains
In this PowerPoint presentation with audio, Charles Fletcher, director, logistics command and control for Boeing, explains how Boeing is using RFID and other technologies to improve the tracking and distribution of equipment, spare parts and personnel for the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as for other government and non-government agencies
"At our plant in philadelphia, our implementation started in 2004 with tool management and asset tracking," he says. "It has now expanded to include the supplier network, so there are RFID systems at the facilities of the companies that supply us with parts. Now, we are using RFID to track inventory, to manage time-sensitive materials and hazardous materials."
"In the FA-18 final assembly that is going on in St. Louis, passive and active RFID is helping us track tool boxes, electrical boxes, repair parts and so on. We can keep track of what is in the freezers. All of the sections of the aircraft are all within the RFID environment, so we can track them."
