More than 400 professionals gathered in Toronto earlier this month to attend the second annual RFID Journal LIVE! Canada conference and exhibition. View the presentations from the event.

Dec. 17, 2007—RFID Journal LIVE! Canada 2007, the second annual conference and exhibition for Canadian professionals, was held at the Toronto Congress Centre on Nov. 26-28. More than 400 attendees gathered at the event to hear end users, systems integrators, consultants and vendors address critical adoption issues in an interactive and collaborative setting. RFID produced the show in partnership with EPCglobal Canada. Presentations from the event are now available (see final page for downloading instructions).

Nicole O'Connor, director of Wal-Mart Canada's information systems division, delivered an opening keynote reporting that the company's nascent RFID deployment is up and running.

Preconferences
The conference opened with three preconference seminars providing in-depth information on specific aspects of RFID and Electronic Product Code (EPC) technologies:

RFID Journal University offered attendees a basic introduction to the fundamentals of RFID, including an understanding of RFID hardware and a live demonstration, as well as the latest developments and practical issues. Topics included the differences between the various classes of tags, such as active and passive systems; when additional IT systems are required to build upon RFID in real-world applications; the EPCglobal Network; the future of ISO standards; ETSI reader regulations and the latest standardization efforts worldwide; the relationship between different standards in the area of RFID and EPC; and industry buzz words.

Mike O'Shea, director of auto-ID sensing technology at Kimberly-Clark, discussed how the company is working with its retail partners to reduce out-of-stocks and improve promotions tracking.

RFID 's Role in Improving Hospital Operations explained how hospitals are using RFID to monitor patients and track surgical sponges, scalpels and high-value assets to reduce medical errors and potential law suits. This seminar also explored how to use RFID to set up automated maintenance routines to improve operational efficiencies and explain how different RFID systems can be used today to reduce costs and achieve improved patient outcomes.
