Hewlett-Packard Brazil is a winner of the first annual RFID Journal Awards. By tagging individual printers, HP has not only gained visibility into its supply chain but also is addressing inefficiencies in its manufacturing and distribution processes.

Hewlett-Packard Brazil was the winner for Best RFID Implementation.

As one of the largest technology vendors in the world, $94 billion Hewlett-Packard has an abundance of many things—customers, products, suppliers and distributors. But one thing was lacking: information about the location of its products as they made their way from distribution centers to retailers' shelves. At any given time, 5 percent of the goods in HP's consumer products supply chain—including its widely selling printers—were unaccounted for. That meant that the products had shipped, but HP wasn't sure where they were.
