To take Course 1 of RFID Essentials, "Introduction to RFID," you must configure your PC and connectivity according to specific requirements.

RFID Revolution provides a utility to indicate whether your system conforms to these requirements, but due to the continuous introduction of new software, the company does not guarantee that this utility will be 100 percent accurate.

To help you with any configuration changes you might need to make, RFID Revolution has provided the following instructions:

1. Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 6 or higher) or Firefox (version 1.5 or higher). Safari for the Mac does not always work well with RFID Essentials, so RFID Revolution recommends using a PC. Select your browser below for instructions on how to determine your software version.

Internet Explorer: From the Help menu, select "About Internet Explorer." To download the latest version of IE, visit:
www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx.

Firefox: From the Help menu, select "About Mozilla Firefox." To download the latest version of Firefox, visit:
www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html.

2. Internet Connection: At least a 56K modem connection—broadband is recommended. To check the speed of your Internet connection, visit one of numerous available Web sites, such as pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp.

3. Adobe Flash Player: Version 7.0 or higher. To download the latest version of Flash, visit www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/.

4. Display Resolution: Set to 1024 x 768 or greater.

5. Pop-ups, Cookies and Java Scripts: These must be enabled. You must not only disable any pop-up blockers operating on your browser, but also those external to your browser. These may operate in toolbars, such as Google Toolbar or Yahoo Toolbar, or possibly in your antivirus or anti-spyware software. Either disable all pop-up blockers on your PC, or add the course Web site (www.rfidessentals.net) to your pop-up blocker exceptions list. Select your blockers below for instructions on how to disable them:

Internet Explorer Version 6 or 7: Select Tools / Pop-up Blocker / Turn Off Pop-up Blocker.

FireFox: Select Tools / Options, then switch to the Content tab and un-check "Block pop-up windows."

Google Toolbar: Navigate to www.rfidessentals.net from your browser. Click the Google Pop-up Blocker toolbar icon. The Google toolbar will remember to allow pop-ups from that site therein, and the icon will change to reflect that pop-ups are OK.

Yahoo Toolbar: Click the Pop-Up Blocker toolbar icon. Look at the "Enable Pop-Up Blocker" line. Un-check Pop-Up Blocker. (You can also tell by the toolbar icon, which will be yellow if enabled, or gray if disabled.)

Norton Internet Security (2006 or later): Click Tools / Internet Options / Delete Cookies. Select OK when asked "Delete all cookies in the Temporary Internet File folder?" Select Clear History, then Yes when asked "Are you sure you want Windows to delete your history of visited Web sites?" Select OK.

Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiSpam (2005/2006): In the main window, on the left side, click Norton AntiSpam. Select Ad Blocking, and then click Turn Off. Also select Pop-up Blocking, and again click Turn Off.

Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiSpam (2004 or earlier): In the main window, double-click Ad Blocking. Uncheck Ad Blocking. Uncheck Pop-up Window Blocking. Select OK.

McAfee: Right-click the Web page, point to McAfee Pop-Up Blocker and deselect Enable Pop-up Blocker.

To learn how to add www.rfidessentals.net to your pop-up blocker exceptions list, select the name of your browser below for instructions.

Internet Explorer Version 6 or 7: Select Tools / Pop-up Blocker / Pop-up Blocker Settings. Type "www.rfidessentials.net" into the "Address of website to allow" field, and then click the Add button and the Close button.

FireFox: Select Tools / Options, switch to the Content tab and click the Exceptions button to the right of the "Block pop-up windows" option. Type "www.rfidessentials.net" into the "Address of web site" field, click the Allow button and then click the Close button.

If you have problems with cookies or Java scripts, select the browser below (as applicable) for instructions.

Internet Explorer Version 6 or 7: The easiest way to reset the settings back to the default level is to select Tools / Internet Options, click the Security tab, click the Default Level button and then click Reset All Zones to default the level button if it is available. Next, select Tools / Internet Options, click the Privacy tab and then click the Default button.

FireFox: Select Tools / Options, switch to the Content tab and check "Enable JavaScript." Next, select Tools / Options, switch to the Privacy tab, check "Accept cookies from sites" and select "Keep until they expire."
