February 8, 2005—In conjunction with recruiting firm Christian & Timbers, Forbes magazine has just published an unranked list of the eight "hottest executive jobs of 2005" across all industries, and none other than RFID Strategist is named, with a starting annual salary of $250,000. According to the job description, "The chief RFID strategist will design and implement RFID systems and be an agent of change; a background in business process transformation is helpful." The Forbes list is derived from a longer one on Christian & Timbers' site which also includes "Chief Logistics Executive" and "Intellectual Property Attorney with RFID expertise" under the RFID heading, with the latter's description noting rather dramatically, "The battle surrounding RFID technology licensing which pits the EPC against Intermec has only just begun."

Having RFID Strategist listed among Forbes' most demanded executive positions represents an implicit acknowledgement by supplier companies that RFID is here to stay. They recognize that it will become an integral and lasting part of their business processes, and they are aware of the complexity and longevity of the projected RFID deployments. They want a permanent, in-house specialist and are willing to pay for the best.

The top eight on Forbes' list also include:
  1. Forensic CFO ($300K)
  2. Chief Compliance Office ($350K)
  3. City CIO ($60K)
  4. Global Executive of Human Resources ($350K)/Global CFO ($500K)
  5. Chief Security Office ($200K)
  6. U.S. Executives for Russian, Indian and Chinese Companies ($250K)
  7. Narrow and Deep Public Company Board Director ($70K)
