EPC Doesn't Infringe RFID Patents
An intellectual property law firm retained by EAN-UCC has found no RFID patents that would prevent the adoption of the Auto-ID Center's specification for Class 1 UHF tags. The news provides some reassurance to vendors developing products based on the specification as well as to companies that might be considering investing in EPC technology.

TI Embraces Prox Card Standard
Texas Instruments is preparing for broader acceptance of RFID payments systems by developing tags and readers based on ISO 14443 Type B, an international standard for proximity cards operating at 13.56-MHz. This week, the company unveiled a Multi-Function Reader Module, which reads RFID transponders that are compliant with the ISO 14443 and ISO 15693 standards.

New Low-Volume RFID Solution
ExypnoTech of German, is introducing a new product for companies that either want to test RFID or use it for an application that requires only a small number of tags. SmartPaper is standard, letter-size paper with a single embedded RFID transponder. It can be printed on and encoded using a modified inkjet printer.
