Marco Astorri wants to make RFID fashionable. The executive VP of Lab ID, based in Bologna, Italy, has been working on a complete radio frequency identification system to be used to track garments and other items. The company produces its own washable labels with embedded 13.56 MHz transponders.

North Dakota isn't the first place that comes to mind when you think of high-tech manufacturing. But Alien Technology, a Morgan Hill, Calif.-based startup, is considering building a facility in the state to produce low-cost radio frequency identification tags.

Japan to Push RFID Development
Jun Murai led the WIDE project in Japan, which aims to establish a widely integrated distributed computing environment. He has also been working on the next generation Internet protocol, known as IP version 6. Last month, Murai was named research director of a new Auto-ID Center lab in Japan. He spoke to RFID Journal about the role the lab would play in the development of radio frequency identification systems.
