It provides security solutions for access control, parking, time and attendance, video imaging, photo identification, membership, library services, and data collection. The company manufactures Wiegand, RFID cards: proximity and contactless, barium ferrite, bar code, magnetic stripe, debit, smart cards and Mifare and Hitag cards.
Cross Technology: This Minneapolis, Minnesota, maker of smart cards was purchased by HEI, also of Minnesota, which makes high-performance, ultra-small microelectronic devices.
Gemplus: This French company is one of the worlds leaders in smart card technology. It spun out its RFID business at Tagsys in 2001.
ID Technologies: Formerly known as CardGuard International, this Raleigh, North Carolina, is a maker of self-athentication cards.
Infineon Technologies: Spun off by Siemens in 1999, Infineon was first listed on the New York and Frankfurt stock exchanges in spring 2000. It is a semiconductor company that produces Smart Card Controllers, Smart Card Memories, security ICs and other RFID chips.
Philips Semiconductors: Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands is one of the biggest electronics companies on earth, and its semiconductor unit is big in RFID. It makes contactless smart cards, smart labels and other RFID products.
RCD Technology Corp.: A Bethlehem, Penn., manufacturer of copper-based antennae for RFID tags and inlets, smart cards, EAS, inventory control, and other uses.
SCM Microsystems: Based in Freemont, Calif. Provides a full range of digital security systems and sophisticated smart card readers.
Syscan: This Quebec, Canada, company makes RFID transponders and RFID readers, software and numerous smart card applications. Applications include asset tracking, warehousing and logistics, and livestock monitoring.
