Aug. 30, 2007—The organizing committee of the RFID Academic Convocation has issued a
call for papers for the
sixth convocation. The convocation will be held in Chicago on Oct. 1, in conjunction with
EPC Connection, a conference and exhibition produced by RFID Journal and
EPCglobal North America. It will focus on how to overcome impediments to adoption and achieve a return on investment from RFID and EPC networking technologies and standards.
"This really is the opportunity for academics who have been working on research related to making it easier for companies to achieve an ROI to get their work publicized," says Stephen Miles, organizer and conference committee cochair for the RFID Academic Convocation, and a research engineer at the
Auto-ID Labs at MIT. "It's also a unique opportunity for end users and potential end users to learn what research is being done, and how they might participate in projects to solve implementation problems."
The conference committee has issued the following topic areas that are of particular interest:
- ROI from RFID
- Industry-specific use cases, such as electronic pedigrees for the pharmaceutical supply chain
- Cross-industry use cases, such as improved transportation delivery forecasting
- Impediments to RFID implementation
- RFID tag and reader challenges and solutions for specific industry products and/or operating environments
- RFID security and authentication
- Track-and-trace strategies for RFID, 2-D bar coding and other auto-ID carriers
The sixth RFID Academic Convocation will be a collocated event addressing research issues surrounding the implementation of RFID. Hosted by the Auto-ID Labs at MIT, this event will be led by a conference committee consisting of RFID research directors responsible for the academic integrity of the proceedings, and separate from EPC Connection 2007.
